A resident of Livermore, Kim Luty has taught piano for ten years and performed for over twenty. Kim has studied music with some of the finest teachers in the Bay Area: Piano with Ellen Wasserman (Principal Piano, Oakland East Bay Symphony), Guitar with Paul Pappas and Voice with Matt Liebowitz and Pamela Hicks. She received her B.A. in Music from California State University, East Bay and has also obtained her M.A. in Music with an emphasis in Piano Performance and Education.
Kim has performed as a soloist and in groups of many different styles. She has worked as a music and vocal director for the Tri-Valley Repertory Theatre in Livermore and Chabot College Theatre in Hayward. She is also a sought after pianist for Bay Area churches, choirs and performing ensembles.
In addition to giving private lessons in piano, voice and guitar, Kim teaches for the Oakland East Bay Symphony's MUSE (Music for Excellence) Program, a program dedicated to assisting musical education in public schools.
Kim offers lessons in Piano at ABC Music in Livermore for all ages and skill levels. Her teaching method caters to the individual needs and goals of the student. Kim uses a combination of method books to help each student build a diverse repertoire and an ability to excel in many styles of music. She trains students in technique and music theory and also encourages creativity and individual expression. Kim organizes student recitals each year, giving students a chance to show themselves and their families what they’ve accomplished.
Most importantly, Kim provides a comfortable learning environment designed to make learning music fun and rewarding for every student.
Kim is also a volunteer instructor with the Music Pathways program.

TESTIMONIALS:
"My daughter LOVES going for piano class with Kimmy. She wants to practice because it's important for her that her teacher be proud of her. I think Kimmy is a wonderful blend of gentleness and discipline, and is perfect for our daughter! I also love the chances my daughter has had to perform locally - from Farmers Markets to more formal recitals - this gives her a specific goal that she works for and then she feels a sense of accomplishment at the end of it. Kimmy has been perfect for her!"

"My daughter wanted her, and only her as her piano teacher. She is highly motivating to my daughter. She has made great progress in less than a year. She is so sweet, knowledgeable, listens to what she wants but also makes her play songs until she has them done the right way. She makes every lesson fun. We are so happy to have Ms. Kim as our teacher, she is awesome!"

"I have been taking piano lessons with Kim for about a year. She is wonderful. Patient. Flexible. Really knows her stuff. When I get frustrated with something she is right there with some positive feedback and a few tips that get me going again."

"Kim Luty is a wonderful person and teacher... Thanks to Kim's knowledge and abilities, my daughter, Grace, was able to secure the lead for the StarStruck Children's Theatre performance of Annie in 2010. Kim is very encouraging which has increased my children's confidence... Kim has always been reliable, dependable, and extremely accommodating. I appreciate her also for always giving back to the community through music by arranging performances at local churches, senior living centers, and farmer's markets. I am so pleased with her as my children's music teacher. Thank you Kim!!!"
